What made you decide to open this business?
I majored in Construction Management at The Ohio State University and minored in Entrepreneurism. Starting a construction company has been a long time goal.
Why did you choose this profession?
My grandfather and my father were both contractors. This is a profession that I’ve been involved in my entire life.
What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you?
Challenges motivate me. A lot of clients come to us with projects that they are unsure of how to approach. I enjoy the challenge of helping our clients make their ideas/dreams a reality. Construction can be a stressful process, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be true. When handled the right way, the construction process can be very fulfilling and enjoyable. And deadlines, deadlines are a definite motivator
What has surprised you most when owning a business?
There is so much paperwork.
What is something most people don’t know about the business?
Most people don’t fully understand how important it is to hire licensed and insured contractors. Unlicensed contractors have advantages that enable them to provide the lowest prices. They don’t have to pay licensing fees, don’t have to obtain a bond to protect their work, and, more often than not, don’t purchase liability or workers compensation insurance. Without these added expenses, the unlicensed contractor can provide their services at a rate lower than the legitimately licensed professional, but it puts the consumer at risk.
If you hire an unlicensed contractor and he falls off a ladder while doing work at your business or house, you’re liable. An unlicensed contractor will also try to cut corners on the work, because they don’t have to adhere to building codes, so if a hurricane hits, or even a severe thunderstorm, your house or business may not hold up to Florida weather conditions.
What would your customers say they love most about your business?
We are great communicators. If you need to talk to us, we are only a phone call or text message away.
How long have you lived in the neighborhood?
I have lived in Sebastian for three years.
What were the factors that made you choose this neighborhood?
My wife couldn’t take another Ohio winter.
What do you love most about the neighborhood?
It’s a beautiful, little coastal town with great weather. What’s not to love about that?
What are your favorite restaurants in the neighborhood?
Captain Hirams, Tiki, and Crab Stop to name a few, but the stromboli at Earls might be my favorite.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’ve lived in Alaska, Hawaii, and New Zealand.
Why do you think it’s important for people to shop local?
Spending your money locally is very important. When you buy things locally, you’re putting money in your friends’, family’s and neighbors’ pockets. If those people are also shopping locally, then that money will likely make its way back into your pockets and the cycle will continue.
What are your favorite things to do in the neighborhood?
I love to get out on the water. I’m always most happy when kayaking, paddle boarding or fishing.
Anything exciting going on that customers should know about?
If you own a home that was built before the year 2000 and you feel like you’re spending too much on insurance, it may be because your roof trusses are not secured properly to the load bearing walls. We can save you a TON of money if this is the case.
